Bernard has wide experience as a writer, editor and media consultant. His long career as a distinguished business journalist enables him to provide valuable insights on the relationship between business and the media, and how to tailor corporate messaging for maximum effect. Background
Over a 35-year career in journalism, Bernard has worked for some of the world's most respected media organizations, including the Financial Times, The New York Times, The Economist and U.S. News & World Report. He served as joint managing editor of the leading Canadian business journal, the Financial Post, and as deputy editor of the leading South African business daily, Business Day. His passion is for reporting and for writing, and he excels at both. Clients benefit from this expertise as Bernard works on a wide variety of writing assignments for them – including speeches, annual reports and public policy papers. In the course of his career, Bernard has written in depth about most of Canada's major corporations, and he has met and interviewed many of the country's top business leaders. He has incisive views about the do's and don'ts of corporate communications – views that convinced him to begin leading workshops to improve the writing skills of people in business and government. He has conducted dozens of Write It Right workshops for a wide range of organizations, including the Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI), BCE and the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Services. Since leaving journalism, Bernard has served as vice-president for communications at Kingsdale Shareholder Services, Canada’s leading proxy solicitation firm. He is also on the faculty of the Global Journalism Fellowship at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs. |
